[NMLUG] Mail servers
Hi there,
This isn't a Linux only question, but I'm looking at e-mail servers for my
company. We currently have a leased line WAN connection to our main
office that runs Microsoft Mail and we run MS Mail post office on our
Novell server. We are going to be getting a local Internet connection
soon to replace our WAN connection (there will be overlap for a time), so
we need to get a local mail server.
The requirements for the mail server include working with the existing
Outlook clients and to support the Outlook shared calendar functions.
This seems to narrow the field to MS Exchange and HP OpenMail. Exchange
run on Windows, of course, and so as not to compete directly, OpenMail
runs on things other than Windows - Linux is one. Our office is small,
and we don't need over 50 users (if we need more we need to move). A
desired feature is to be able to access e-mail via the Web in a secure way.
Anyhow, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone here has some experience with
these two to give me some info, specifically on if OpenMail is worth
getting vs. Exchange or else info on an alternative that can provide the
same functionality (i.e., sendmail with another program calendar sharing).
I've been trying to get the bosses to understand security better, and I
know that OpenMail advertises that it is very secure.
thanks,
Ryan Gray
