[NMLUG] bsd ports
I personally find FreeBSD's packaging/port system to be much nicer than
anything I've found under linux (I've never run apt though).
The ports are nice, especially when you want to build something against
certain libraries or have to apply a patch. FreeBSD also has a package
system where you can download and install pre-compiled binaries. The
ports and packages are fully compatible with one another and integrate
as one system.
Give it a shot, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. BSD isn't
nearly as hard as many people will lead you to believe, especially if
you're fairly comfortable with the command line.
