[NMLUG] Mandrake 10.1

  • Subject: [NMLUG] Mandrake 10.1

The new release of Mandrake Linux 10.1 Community Edition is most
notable in one respect: it uses the Xorg X11 server instead of XFree.
Mandrakesoft made the change because of licensing issues with
Xfree.org. From my perspective it's a great improvement; for the first
time I've been able to do a fresh install on my Nvidia-card /
LCD-monitor system and have the video start correctly without having
to use Nvidia proprietary drivers or futzing with xvidtune. I hope all
the distros move to Xorg, particularly the "live CDs".
