Guys, I think he's not asking what to change in Firefox...He's asking
how to save things elsewhere. Check it again, he also asked *how* to
run Firefox.
Anyways Raymond, I think your main issue here is with permissions. It
sounds like you are running your desktop as a normal user, and not as
root. IMO, this is good, but it *does* limit your convenience sometimes.
*My* solution is to build a downloads folder in my home directory. Your
Desktop directory is a subdirectory of your home directory (which is
usually /home/username).
It sounds like you went to mozilla.org and downloaded firefox, and
there's nothing wrong with that, but you might want to check out your
distro's package manager. I'm actually not familiar with debian, but
I'm positive someone on here can advise you how to get Firefox installed
using the "debian way". ;-)
Anyways, good luck and continue to post here. While sometimes the
responses you get will be a bit off-topic, don't be afraid to reply
telling us to RTFE or something. (hint, hint) ;-)
I think you got a good response from this list for your query, and I
expect this thread will have several more responses on this topic. I
expect a few debian-related tips and tricks might just be in order. :-)
