I consider Ubuntu great. It provides several things that Debian needs.
The most significant of which is a tested snapshot. That is to say that
you can give someone an ubuntu CD. And they get something with recent
software (cutting edge gnome stuffs at release time) that won't require
super-bandwidth-munching updates on a weekly basis.
Contrast that with woody, sarge and sid. And you've got something that
was needed even if it's not for everyone.
